IMT Precision Completes ITAR Registration, Extending Its Large-Format Machining Capability to Controlled Aerospace, Space, and Defense Programs

Registration with the U.S. Department of State clears the Hayward, California manufacturer to take on export-controlled defense machining work alongside its semiconductor, energy, and national-laboratory programs.

HAYWARD, CA / ACCESS Newswire / July 17, 2026 / IMT Precision, Inc., a precision machining and manufacturing company specializing in large envelope parts, has completed its registration under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) with the U.S. Department of State. The registration authorizes IMT Precision to manufacture defense articles and handle controlled technical data, supporting the company’s large part machining capability to aerospace, space, and defense programs that require an ITAR registered supplier.

ITAR registration is a requirement, not a courtesy, for any shop that machines components covered by the U.S. Munitions List. The engineering and procurement teams that go looking for an ITAR registered machine shop are typically sourcing space structures, satellite components, defense machining, and other export-controlled hardware that cannot legally be placed with an unregistered supplier. For those teams, it means IMT Precision can now legally quote, receive drawings for, and produce defense-grade hardware, keeping the work with a domestic supplier that already operates under a certified quality system.

The registration builds on a capability set that few shops on the West Coast can match. From its Hayward facility, IMT Precision runs a large-envelope machining cell with up to 201 by 134 by 42 inches of travel and 10-ton overhead crane support, multi-axis CNC milling, turning, and boring in aluminum, stainless, titanium, and exotic alloys, ultra-high-vacuum chamber fabrication with AWS-certified welding, and climate-controlled CMM inspection with First Article Inspection and helium leak testing. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has manufactured mission-critical components for customers across the region.

“Completing ITAR registration was the natural next step for us. Our customers in aerospace and defense have the same problem everyone brings us, a part too large and too precise for an ordinary shop, with the added requirement that the work stay controlled and domestic. Now we can say yes to that work from the first phone call,” said Jeff Nordloff, Vice President Sales, IMT Precision.

The company said the registration is expected to expand its work on ITAR-controlled projects, complementing existing programs in semiconductors, energy, and national-laboratory research hardware. Founded in 1994, IMT Precision continues to grow well into its third decade.
